Our customer required a roof only structure to be constructed over an operational feedlot. Our engineering team was able to tailor a cost-effective solution to suit the existing infrastructure while maintaining a design which allowed the construction to occur with minimal disruption to the feedlot operations. The design incorporated storm water management to minimize effluent runoff in the feedlot, and decrease the square meter requirements for cattle being held in the feedlot. We also constructed a large commodities shed for feed storage.

Design Concepts Incorporated

• Large trusses spanning pens of up to 16m
• Versaspan^TM structural cladding spans of 20m and overhangs of 5m
• Diamond shaped column designs to minimize column interference inside the pen, while pushing the roof coverage to almost 8m from the center of the columns

Our customer approached us to develop a covered feedlot construction system that would work with their robotic feeding systems. Utilizing the cost savings of designing with our VersaSpan structural cladding system, our solution was able to reduce the cost of building feedlot area per animal to below the cost of uncovered feedlots. All aspects of feedlot utility were incorporated into the building design, thereby saving on doubling of infrastructure required in conventional covered feedlot buildings.
